I'm off to Portland in the morning. I'll have a friend in tow and hearty belly laughs are sure to come along for the ride - stowed away in our totes and popping out at the most unexpected and perfect moment! The dryness of the late summer has been crawling up through the parched earth and up my legs. My arms move slow and creaky-like in the studio while my mind longs for water. Rain. Thirst quenched. Delicious.
I'm holding visions of this for the ride up to Portland...just enough to satiate my craving but not enough to slow us down. I say beggers CAN be choosers. Normally I'd post a little ditty here sing-songing the message of a journey, but Misty did a fine job of it already so just know that we are singing the same tunes.
I'll hum my way up the canyon freeway, through the Willamette Valley as wide as valley's get around here - the Umpqua River over there to the left meandering it's way under and along and back under the road again. A little stop for cookies and nourishing teacher/student/energy food and we'll be there. It will only take us a story or two (with aforementioned laughs speckled throughout, of course) to get us there - hardly the three and a half hours the clock will say it takes. If you are in the area on Friday evening, I and a few of my wonderful author friends like LK, Kelly, deMeng, and Tonia (and more) will be there with sharpies in hand for a good old-fashined book signing. And Satudray evening we will be selling our wares and artwork from 6-10 pm at the Embassy Suites at the Airport. I hope to see you there and if not, I will see you all when I return. I leave you with this quote from dear Judy Wise (from Kelly's new book):
" I can honestly say that I have alway been pretty comfortable not knowing what life would bring me next. I've never had an overall goal or plan and I still don't. I usually feel like the only thing guiding me is a trust in my own intuition, as though navigating through a thick fog on blind faith. I choose my friends carefully and only surround myself with the kindest, most principled and most loving....."
I will share company with just such people in the coming days. Blessed be!
