It's the morning after the night before. :) I've been graced by the loving energy of dear friends all week. One of the most beautiful souls I've ever met sent me a box full of love. The soft tears and laughter flowed as I opened each golden-thread-wrapped bundle all nestled within a sweet wooden box. She knows me well. That golden thread reminds me of the thread of love that connects us all. That thread that drapes from heart to heart to heart. Another soul made an endearing work of art just for me (I'm so honored...) and it seemed to be the perfect thing to hang in that spot on the dining room wall that has been waiting for the perfect thing since we moved in almost two years ago.
I turned 32 yesterday - a day that seemed conjured up just for my pleasure...starting with sleeping in and little early morning kisses and whispers of "happy birthday momma." I still can't get enough of baby soft cheeks fresh after a long night's sleep.....When my eyes finally did open, a cool overcast morning greeted me. I am energized by overcast summer mornings - they seem more magical than in dreary, wet winter. That silver blanket lingered all day. It kept us cool as we went to the local Sunday market here in our tiny little town where we bought red currants and kale and fresh tamales and a steeple of a plant with a soft pink plume on the end (I forget the name, just now). I noticed on the temperature sign downtown that it was a comfortable 77 degrees. My year. My number.
Evening whispered in and the siren call of smoke from the fire pit called me from the studio...where theman was roasting chicken and corn on the cob and whole heads of garlic. The warmth from the coals coating our smiles and laughter so it wouldn't float on up into the canopy too quickly. Heaven, I tell you. Heaven.
Phone calls from beloved parents and siblings and friends and even and aunt and uncle who sang a lovely harmonized rendition of the classic birthday song. The evening ended with a decadent chocolate cake (my man is THE man!), thoughtful gifts from my sweeties, and family movie time all snuggled on the sofa together. What more could I want?
When I finally went to bed, all was quiet in the house and I thought I'd make sure the volume was turned down on this here computer (which is in the room just next to our bedroom). If not, than the little timer dings every time and email comes in. Even at 2 in the morning. It can be irritating when one is trying to sleep. I had to laugh when I looked at the little red circle that told me how many 'marked as unread' emails are sitting in my inbox. I kid you not.
"Maybe I'm molting. To heck with my jacket. What the hey. I'm fed up with my old mummy mode, afraid of unraveling transformation. I guess I can't avoid the unknown darkness of metamorphosis. The changes seem terrifying, but there's no going back. Enough caterpillar clinging to my many stumbling feet, clutching a tattered way-of-being jacket around me, blinding hood around nodding head."
